Plugging away on this housing project we started on in the spring.
We've got two days left to complete the exterior trim details and the stonework.

Yes, I went as far as I could with it today before running short on material.
The t&g covers the whole post /beam and then gets a simple 1x3 corner trim. A smooth cedar rail will get installed tomorrow with a simple cross picket (X) detail.

So here's where the posts were last night.
Not much change today because I'm still short on material.
Six freaking pieces.
Some custom run bull crap that won't be available until who knows when.
Looks like a fairly standard 1x6 t&g to me...

Anyways, got to help with the stone for the rest of the day. It was my first time doing it so I'll check tomorrow to see if it's going to fall off [emoji28]

I was voluntold..... This product is really forgiving, so add long as I bedded it properly it'll be just fine.
I just treated it like tile... Scratch coat was there so I just burned in a bed coat and back buttered the product and pressed it in until I saw some squeeze out.

I started the columns from the bottom up so that I could blind nail the tongue, but later realized I could have face nailed the edges because they get a 2-3/4" trim over them.
I did laser in a random point to get my bottom piece rip measurement so that they could be somewhat in line.
I did the framing on this but didn't really spend a lot of time getting everything dialed in for the trim.

I honestly don't know if they're going to finish it with anything.
There was no finish spec'd on the drawings, so I think it will be at the discretion of the GC.

Edit : just spoke to the GC, the posts and beams are getting stained[emoji106]
Not sure which finish they'll go with.

Got to do something a little more fun today.
Simple rail construction. Not really a guardrail, just a decorative element.
Our last day on site is supposed to be tomorrow, so I'll be finishing the cladding, the corner trim, and the last rail in the front of the home.

Did a kitchen nook a while back. At the time they had a small dog named Charlie. He had his spot in the nook under the 3rd bay counter. Unfortunately Charlie passed away a few months ago. They don't have plans to replace him which I think is sad in unto itself. Charlie was a good dog. He always had a snort for me when I pet him.

The plan was always eventually a cabinet would go in the space. So she finally told me to make it. The drawers originally had Blum soft close Tandems and she would reach under the drawer to pull it out. With the cabinet there that was no longer an option so I replaced the Tandems with Movento Tipons which are push to open, just like the large file cabinets to the far left.

I built the cabinet with a top and bottom rail with no side stiles. The doors would go all the way to the edge just like the drawers did. There is a half depth shelf inside. The doors are also push to open using tipon plungers.

I also did a 27"x 31" door under the staircase that I didn't get a picture of. Just did it like an inset cabinet door. Used blum full crank hinges and surrounded the jamb with the same Windsor molding they used on all the other doors in the house. Only thing I wasn't able to do was finish up the baseboard. I ran out of time. Wife wanted me home at 5pm, I got there at 5:50pm.... oops.

She says she will paint a picture of him inside the cabinet. Not sure if she was kidding or not. She had good artist skills so she could actually pull it off.

More work on that guard rail.
Ran out of stock first thing in the morning, so I had some 4x4 cedar posts dropped off so that I could site fabricate a close match.
Sized it up on the tablesaw with a 30 tooth blade, then hit them with several passes with a wire wheel on a grinder.
It's not an exact match, but it's close enough to get away with [emoji106]
All I've got left on this job is some of the simple trim on the post and beam, and some paint touch ups around the home.

Had to stick a porch up a bit quick for my daughter as her baby came early and she needs the extra space for the pushchair etc. Still have to slate the roof and render/Tyrolean the external walls.
The woman next door is a nurse and she reckons they induced the baby early as she was due on Christmas day and they like to clear the wards for Christmas.

Doing some crummy exterior trim. All off ladders, my azz is killing me ugh...yesterday was all off 36 footer in some windy conditions afternoon.

All 1x4 pine rotted and where it was the worse, ants burrowed in to seek warm. No further infestation that I can see but it is the worst vinyl siding job ever. Seams visible from the front, corner posts butt up to each other, jay channels on everything in sight an not well fitted.
