It's not furniture.

It can't be furniture because I didn't use mortise and tenon to attach the apron to the leg. In a shameful rush, I used pocket screws and biscuits.😞

Made this in a couple hours. I made this for my wife so she'd stop bishing about using TV trays between our recliners. I brought it home to make sure it would work in the space before I toiled at putting a finish on it.

Alder base, cause I had 8/4. Curly Maple top with Walnut edging. The taper is only near the bottom 7". I might add a shelf.

It's called a beaded detail on the apron. LOL

Got some finish on it today. Walnut stain thinned 50% on the base and Walnut edge on the top. The base came out a bit blotchy so I did a Walnut toner on them to even it out. The top got one more coat after these pics.

Thanks guys. Just a simple table. Nice they don't take much time. The finishing with the dry time takes a lot longer than building it. Started about 1pm and last coat about 9pm. Mostly just waiting an hour between coats and the final coat 2 hours. Staining the Walnut edge is done by masking the Walnut off and spraying the curly Maple with a clear coat. After that dries remove the mask and stain carefully. Any oops can be wiped off the Maple. Then I mask the Maple and spray the Walnut. I do this so both have one coat and of course a small tape ridge. Then I block scuff pretty hard to even both out and then continue spraying as normal.

You would have figured it out yourself eventually. I did that myself around 2007

Decided to put the shelf in. Again, more pocket screws.

Too much work. I thought about it and said no. I don't want the shelf to mimic the top. If I had more Alder I would have made it from that and stained it the same as the base.

I get no credit for building "us" things. At least she took a picture of it when I put it in place. I asked who she planned on sending to and she said no one. 😢

Ummm, I think it's kinda stupid. But who am I to judge what a designer wants. It is interesting.
