Winding down the Kitchen Nook build. So many monkey wrenches thrown into the timeline of this project. But it's finally getting there.

Stained and finished the Tiger Maple countertops. There's 3 of them and the maple is very active. I stained them, then sanded the stain off leaving the tiger portion with stain. Then I stained them again and the tiger was 50% darker than the first time around. 3 coats of a 2K polyurethane to protect them.

I'm very pleased with how it came out. Glad I did the sanding off of the stain because it made it that much more extreme. It's satin so the grain won't have as much depth as it could with a full gloss.

The 2K is pretty easy to work with as long as you understand the short pot life and that you have to clean out the gun before 3 1/2 hours goes by. The 2k gives a nice slippery silky feel and it's the most durable finish I shoot which is why I use it on counters.

She hasn't seen them yet. Normally I would send a photo, but I'd rather she see it in person first without pics. Some of it is getting installed tomorrow. It's going to be a brutal installation. The floors are so bad everything needs to be scribed. And because of the pocket doors everything needs to be perfect. Should be fun. It's going to take half the day just to get the stuff there because I have no box truck, just 2 pickups.

Just rent one, charge it to customer and save yourself the trips...

Used to do the same thing (to an extent - vans) years ago until I thought "Why am I wasting all this time, money and energy when a solution, which the customer pays for, is available to less than a $100"...

I order normal Maple and I usually get a couple of these boards mixed in. Actually it upsets me because I can't use them for what I order Maple for - paint grade. The tiger shows up in the paint as waves because of the different densities of the wood along the tiger stripe.

So I take the boards and stack them against the wall. Whenever someone asks for a wooden countertop I ask if they are interested in the Tiger Maple. I don't really have much use for it unless it's specified, and I don't get to many of those jobs. So instead of paying big bux for the specialty wood I get it for normal prices and just set it aside until I need it.

Drove to my clients home and brought everything in, then the tools. 1 1/2 hrs to get the 2 side cabinets leveled out and then pull them out and sand the scribes. Put the top on to form the cabinet in the center and apply the back. Drill the holes for the electrical wires and added strings to the wires. Pulled the strings through and pushed the cabinet most of the way in. Trimmed the bottom of the face frame to align with what we scribed off the cabinets. Added the biscuits and then applied the face frame to the cabinet and put in 2 dozen pocket screws. Pushed the cabinet in the rest of the way, as far as the base molding would allow. That was about 6pm so time to clean up.

Currently spraying out a door and a few pieces of trim for my place. I rent, and the landlord gets me to do most of the improvements or changes.
Gotta wait on the install because I damaged the weatherstripping as I was removing it.
Tomorrow I'll get some pics of the house I'm working on for my employer.... Gotta go in and finish up the last of the framing before the inspection on Tuesday.

Went to the home site today to finish up some framing, some things that were missed, and do a massive cleanup.
We should be moving on to the siding for this place within the next day or two.
We're subbing on this one... Lately our MO for this builder is to take it from foundation to siding... Then we get a chance to take care of some of the other interior items if we have time in the schedule.
Been working so far... But I really want to do another reno soon.

Getting there with the Kitchen Nook.

Had a couple of issues that were had because I couldn't do an assembly of the whole unit at my shop because it's just me. 1st one was bad planning, the flipper hardware was 3/4" too low. Don't know how I did it, but I did. Had to move all 18 of them up by 3/4". We cut a few spacers and it went pretty quick, still a big time waster. Then because I wasn't able to pre-mount all the doors a gap issue (5/64" planned turned into an 1/8" reality) meant that I need to take a 1/16" off of 4 doors because of size creep. Sucks, but it's something that I did with theoretical measurement that reality didn't line up with. The rest of the build went really smooth.

Doors will have wire diamond brass mesh with fabric behind them.

3 desk areas.

File hangers with a space for other stuff.

Couple of deeper drawers

Couple of old school drawers above the computer area. They can pull out easy so you can get into them without standing up.

Thanks Tom, it's getting there. I think with the addition of the mesh and fabric it'll all pull together.

Superb as usual Leo,, As I rip kitchens out and screw in chinese boxes I think Leo is making beautiful stuff and installing it.
Just ripped out this one the other day. It's getting custom made cabinets that the cabinet maker will in stall. Lots of nice granite in that can.

Hopefully the custom cabinets will be nicer than the store bought ones.

Whenever I put in store bought cabinets I wonder how they'll stay together for more than a few years.
