Hopefully GC can have the fire sprinkler lines isolated so I can start removing structural components next week.
Driver took the weekend off starting yesterday, so gonna just pile up the big mess.

Clean and crisp work...as always.

 

Spent a bunch of my day figuring out this. A stain match that was suppose to be easy. The guy gave me the spray stain and the wiping stain that was suppose to match the color of the angle. I just couldn't make it work. Way too much maroon in the end. So I got my color guy to do a match and he got it real close but not close enough for me. His was lacking a red undertone. I added red oxide (rust pigment color) to his stain match, about 5 drops and it stopped getting redder at one point and started to shift to more yellow. So I had to come up with another way to make this work with what I have.

It has a red yellow undertone, not to be mistaken for orange - because it's not. Color works weird when it's pigments and not dyes. So I needed more of the undertone and I guessed at an orange red stain I had from another client. You don't really see the red in it until the clear goes over it. So I stain the maple board with the orange 1. Wipe it down. Immediately put the stain I had made for me on it and let it soak for 2.5 minutes, but push it around while it's sitting on the board. Wipe it off softly and slowly so that it matches the end product well while it's still wet. When it dries it looks like 2. Very brown with no hint of red, yellow or orange. And then you put the matte finish on it 3 and all the colors come out and it's a really good match. Not perfect, but really really close. It's going to have to do because I am so done with this match.

 

Well this is fun. Stain failure #1. Love it after all the testing to get a color to come out it doesn't. I even did it twice on a sample to make sure the technique would work. Nope. Too much of the orange showed though and the brown stain wasn't dark enough. Still pretty sure this is the way to do it. I have to adjust my timing. The dark stain needs to go on right after the orange so they blend. Problem is it's a 6"x12' long board and I can't put a coat of the orange on fast enough before it dries too much to limit the dark stain penetration. So I'm gonna have to apply both of them at the same time. This should be interesting.

Finished installing the required 8x8 posts to support the modulars that are only going to arrive 8 weeks or so late....

 

Some active projects, the two story with board and batten gets drystack sandstone and stucco as well.

 

Nothing fancy. Installed a shower door for a lady as a side job.

Well try #2 is wiped on. I got the darkness I think. I just don't know if the orange is going to overwhelm the color. Have to let it dry and then put a clear on it.

I'm expecting to have to sand it off again. 😔. But this is exactly why I did the flat part and not the crown. If I screw that up it's over...

 

Whatta pain in the butt. Sanded try #2 off. #3 looks better. But that's what I thought last time too. Gonna have to wait it out and do a small section of clear to see what it looks like.

 

I'm terrible at matching, I do brute force multiple tests at the same time. That still doesn't mean I get a match, but I fail faster....

 

I did the tests. Came out really close, close enough for me and I'm picky. But now on the real subject it's giving me issues. That's what happens when the test pc is 8" and the real thing is 12'

Time becomes a big issue. I was using a countdown timer. I have to put the orange on and wipe it off and immediately put the brown on top and let it sit for 2 1/2 minutes. Because of the immediate factor I've been doing about 2' of orange and wiping it off and then putting the brown on top moving back and forth between the orange and brown. All the while the 2 1/2 minutes is counting down. I got a little farther than 1/2 way when the timer went off and had to start wiping. But you have to do only to 1st area, put more orange on the other end then brown, come back and wipe the next session that reached 2 1/2 minutes etc. Whatta pain in the butt. Timing is way to sensitive on this stain.

I had good help. Biggest pain was unwrapping all the glass pieces.

 

So, was that hourly or piecework?

 

It was a bid job and included installing the lift.

The lift was the bigger pain. 2 days in a hot attic.

I told my super to roll felt or hay out around the house to protect masonry, he got in just before rain.

Pretty cool house for the budget, the framed in back doors are because of a supplier who went out of business, a lot of drama there I'll detail if I ver get over my uncontrolled rage 😆. I bought some cheap sliders to replace two 16' X 8' sliders. Will pay to remove drywall and siding outside when we replace

Not a fan of the cabinet finish. Exact match for cleints wishes
