Back at it again. Had to do my BIL driveway and sidewalk because him and my sister are in Florida. Ya, you heard that right. I get to snowblow his stuff while he's in a warm climate. I'm really glad it's cold down there now. Then off to Dad's for lunch. So I started after 2pm today. I swapped out the spring for the gas valve to the propane spring. The propane spring is red, this NG looks like it has a green tint to it.

Now I'm working on ducting. I'm starting with the PITA stuff first. Had to move more of my crap around to make room to pull up the floor.

And I needed to make room for a path.

After that I had to cut two of the 4x8s into 4x4s so I could pull them up. It's tongue and groove OSB.

I removed the left side insulation making room for a duct I would build for the space.

I got some 4x8 sheets of foil face polyisocyanurate. Some 1/2" and 1". I'll use the 1/2" for the ducts protected in the joist cavities and the 1" which will be coming off the furnace. I cut the sheets into strips and rabbeted 6 strips on both edges for the sides which will accept the sheet for the top and bottom.

I put them together with foil tape and put an end cap on them which stiffens up the box. So far I've made 18' of duct and have another approx 6' to go for this section.

Well, back to real work until next weekend I'm guessing.

I wish our HVAC subcontract work was as clean as yours--a fine job, it seems.

Oh ya, now I get what you're saying. I guess what I meant to say is work that actually makes money instead of spending it.

 

It's in this thread too, the bar job. Working on this over the weekends. Probably be weeks before I can fire it up. I'm sure as it gets closer to being done I'll quit early and do a couple hours at the end of the day. Gotta make the bar base and start on the 3 cabinets included in the job. Having problems sourcing pre-finished plywood. I have some, but not sure if it'll be enough. I can use "import" but don't really care to.

 

I even brought out the cordless Milwaukee Packout vacuum to clean out the joist bays that the ducting is going into.

ie: I wanted to play with my new vacuum. LOL

Eventually every job needs to be cleaned up. And since it's me, myself and I. Trying to keep it clean just makes the final cleanup easier. Going to be a joy having to push all that crap back against the walls

 

Inks Lake Custom finishing in next few weeks. Decks for days on this one, 2x6 smooth cedar which is the most economical decking we sell. Will get a bunch of finished pics



We are building a 1250 sq ft shop for him next month

 

The little house on the the Llano River in Castell we are building. Small weekend pad, they own 130 acres there and we will build them their retirement home back in the hills away from the river overlooking it in 5 years.

All limestone, 24 gauge charcoal standing seam, Lincoln windows and doors, quartzite counters, outdoor kitchen, lodgepole pine porch ceilings, hand trowel textured walls, big masonry fireplace and distressed and dual stained Ponderossa Pine beams in the living room. Some bad ass showers and backsplashes, on track for sinc month complete build time, these pics are over a week old.

2018 and prior thats 20 weeks tops. Lol

 

Do you pour the stone shelf after the fact or just haven't stripped all the forms?

I had to build a tent for my next project, Concrete repairs on a roof. I need a place to stage material and tools, this seemed like the best option.

Turned out decent for what it is [emoji51] old door had wood under it…with concrete both sides, door couldn’t go up any, installed a 6’ door and had 3/4” clearance to the Sheetrock under the stairs lol not sure if I’ll wrap the footings or clean em up and the HO doesn’t care either way

Remodel I’m working on.

Added 3 lofts/mezzanines.

Split a new hallway out of a bedroom.

Added a closet.

Bunch of electrical rewire.

Got about 40 sheets of rock hung today.

 

Can't take too much credit for this. We mostly build spec, but this is the company owners new house so it's a fair bit nicer.

I've mostly been handling deficiencies. Did install the fireplace and have baby sat most of the finish trades - kept them from cutting a few corners and such.

 

Yes it's a bit messy. We're cleaning up right now.

 

Got around to putting the shell of the bar together today. Still some to go. Have to glue on a stile and a curved cap which haven't been made yet.

This is the base for the foot rest. Mitered with biscuits as an alignment guide.

The foot rest has a couple of returns on them.

Not the usual 45º miter

Had to notch the end of the long side for the stile to nest into.

Started off by putting the bar panels upside down on the floor

I put the foot rest on first by through screws into the bottom of the paneling. Then I put the base on by pocket screwing it on the bottom from the inside. This nests it up against the round over that sticks down a 1/4"

This will be the side with the flip up bartop

And this is the side that will nest into the outside corner of the wall.

 

Corbels came in today. 7" deep, 5" wide at the top and 14" tall. Picked out which ones go where, did a bit of sanding, one had a small chip so I sanded it out and screwed them on. They will be coming off for finishing. To much of a PITA to scuff them on the bar.

Then I had to cover the curve and the stile to make it look clean. I laminated up a pc with a plywood jig. Damn, Hard Maple doesn't like to bend. I had to make the pcs 5/64th each and put 5 of them in for a 3/8" thick bent lamination. Cut it to approx length, roundovers with a router.

Then clamp that sucker on and going to let it dry overnight.

 

What? You don't make your own corbels?

I really think "Leo the Corbel Maker" has a great ring to it, and conjures up quite the image.

 

Took a week for them to get here. Does that count?

 

A true artisan would take at least 2-3 weeks to make one corbel. I'm disappointed in you.

When my brother came home from college he couldn't get a better paying gig so he went to work for us. Within 2 years he had started a cabinet shop and was building our cabinets and training guys. We have wildly different skill sets but he's an exceptional carpenter and beats the chit out of me on anything inside the house lol.

Anyway about 8 years ago I get a bill from Patton Cabinet Doors for a delivery and gasp deeply 😆 - and put pencil to paper. Seemed high. We have a face frame table and chit, why are we subbing

I go out to the shop and show him the bill - bro - why can't we build these doors? I think we pick xx.00$ per ft if we do the doors

i get the look i give the clients brother in law who hung drywall in a garage in college and now dares to second guess my decisions

He said you wanna make money or make doors?

I said - both 😆

He said ok you figure out a way to blah blah blah blah change this jig blah blah blah need this equipment $$$ blah blah blah that is going to take x amount of hours etc etc...

I said ah. OK, so the doors don't make sense. Got it.

He said yeah ill holler at you next time I need to know how to count paper clips. Go sell something or work with concrete chimps 😆

When I built my house I did trim first and then was on cabinets. Stain grade alder, simple Simon stuff. I decide to build the cabinets

By then my brothers lead carpenter was the shop lead and Matt was running projects. I go in and let him know hey I'm gonna be building a lot of cabinets for my house.

He said I'll do it.

I said nah bro I got it.

He texts later he will do on weekend, no time and half
