I used the purple dust control to install rounded bead on existing painted walls ( I removed the old square bead and replaced it) Everything was going just fine, until I went to sand after the final coat. Certain areas cured so hard that coarse grit sanding blocks wont take it down. These areas also cured with a high gloss sheen. Weird. I usually just board, but this job was too small to involve a taper.

What the heck is going on here? Any ideas?

I've never used that product before. :no:
But if it was me, I would scrape the high spots and edges. Then run a tight skim and sand as needed. :thumbsup:

Never used it either but it sounds like it has the same effects as fast setting compound.

I dont about your skills but I dont tape everyday thats for sure and even though the fast set will save me some time early I still end up skimming a final coat of light wieght premixed because I cant get a feathered edge with out it.

Ive only used it a handful of times but i found it was always real soft. Kinda clumpy sanding experience with heavy dust making it fall straight down. It also burned my eyes extra bad, maybe something nasty in it to control dust?

i've used the dust control a few times to try it out because i always work in furnished homes. that purple dust control is a terrible product! it dries just as hard if not harder then a setting compound and theres always tons of air bubbles in it. i wouldnt recommend that stuff to an enemy. the stuff is exactly what the stuff says it is, its to hard to sand so theres no dust haha! go grab yourself a better product like the red premix light, the blue lid bucket, or switch brands to lafarge or another thats a premix finishing compound.

I have only used it for back-filling large areas because it is hard to sand and not anywhere near a finishing product.

try using a rasp to take the mud down and then call the taper to fix.

Is there another "dust control" mud other than BLUE lid USG ?

I find that getting your face really close to where you are sanding and taking really deap breathes helps a lot.
