Fix it, hide it, or decorate it. The first two are out, so pad out the wall a few inches around the door and trim it out.

 

Yep…one side will be a switch to patio lights then a countertop kitchen cabinet nearby which will make it easier to mask. Opposite side of patio doors on interior is more exposed…next to a couch so 2” bump-out would be more noticeable. Need to find creative ways to decorate. Thank you!

 

Buy a new frame

 

Unfortunately the frame on the door is made of fiberglass, not wood. And Milgard unable to pull frame and re-attach to a new frame. That is a bummer.

Aside from building the frame yourself and just using the slabs. Aside from counter jamb extensions, is the fiberglass not solid? I shortened 7 steel doors with at least 3” removed only to look factory at the end. If the threshold needs modification there is the hard part. One could replace it and build the jambs no?
I would do oversized trim and notch it around the protruding jamb, kinda like brick or stucco molding. Caulk n paint make it what it ain’t

 

If they couldn’t be ripped to size that is or sell it and buy what’s right. But much factory prehangs ain’t right to begin with so might as well have some fun.

interior designer…Milgard won’t replace so need to make due with it. $4250 door…can mask one side fairly easily as it’s very close to a countertop cabinet that’s 14” depth. Where the flange is prevents from just placing bump-out on exterior, has to be 2” interior. 60” x 90” outswing French patio doors.

 

I know Melgard won’t replace. I was implying for you to replace.

 

Can you bump the exterior out 2"? A hip roof with a 6" overhang and finish it in all trim to match house.

You could also make it look like a feature on the interior. Basically a really tall mantle type of trim to make it look pronounced. Without seeing a few pics of the space it is tough to give much advise.
