With all due respect Neo, our local yards have also been using this term for 20+ years that I know of, long before the box stores hit town

We call it carsiding (round-dis-paats) becuase we use to build caars

rail cars that is

Lots of confused folks over there too.
It's possible those pix posted
of the ceiling and bedroom were
just turned over.
It has a smooth side...

I forgot I made this thread.

In my area, Northern Illinois, 1/2" drywall is required behind the carsiding for fire purposes.

Every time I go to the depot I wonder what the hell that white wood really is, it always seems like a different species. I think it may be half a dozen different things depending on what happens to be cheap at that time. Sometimes it is different pieces of wood in the same stack.
