I'm renovating the 3rd floor of my parent's investment property. As part of the renovation I'm restoring the windows to their original size.

I need to be able to get access to the windows from the outside, to cut back the vinyl siding and install exterior trim to accommodate the new window size.

The windows are 29' off the ground and are 6' tall. The building is 39' tall. At some point I'd like to replace the vinyl siding so i want a system that will allow me access to the highest point of the building.

I checked my local building code and I am allowed to setup pump jacks as long as I do no exceed 40'. The building is set back from the sidewalk by 15'.

I've priced 3 brands of aluminum pump jack systems (24' + 12' poles x 2 + other required equipment):
Titan (sold by badger ladder) - 1630 w/ free shipping
Magnum - 1716 w/ free shipping
Werner - 2344 + freight charges.

Anyone have an opinion on these brands? Is the quality all about the same?

Prices above include:
Item Qty
24' poles 2
12' poles 2
pump jack 2
Work bench 2
braces 4
Extension inserts 2

Prices above don't include scaffolding planks. The building has half octogonal face which make the runs of scaffolding rather short. The aluminum planks sold by these companies start @ 12' wide)

I have Aluma-pole and Werner unfamiliar with the others. Dont skip on the back rest it provide great work surface and mental piece of mind.

I rarely ever used extensions beyond my 12 footers over 24 ft poles. Very wobbly until you get closer to the bracing.

Its still the way to go though, add extra bracing along the way

I have a set of Werner pump jacks, two, 24' and two 12' posts. I have two 24' by 500# planks and one 24' by 250# planks. I almost always put the 250# plank as my back work station platform with a large pallet on top. All my tools sit on that. I also will cradle boxes of siding under that plank with chains. Sorry, no comment on the other brands as I haven't used them.

I purchased a used set of Aluma-pole pump jacks. $800
2 24' poles
2 12' poles
2 braces
2 pump jacks
2 work benches
2 pole feet
2 pole extension inserts

Getting it home was fun. Used 5 ratchet straps - poles didn't budge the entire trip. Red flags and hazard lights on the whole trip.

There ya go, you will be able to sell it for the same money in 5 years.

If the parapet is SOUND, maybe rent a swinging stage(s)?

I beams cantilever over parapet, counterweighted on sound roof deck? thinking flat roof....

Recommend the electric winches instead hand cranked. need at least 3 people, one roof guy if a breaker pops...

Vinyl siding, don't plan on inheriting anything of value IMHO.....

Don't buy the cheapest siding sold please.

Consider installing thermal shades for winter and summer energy savings on big windows, and low E glass tinting, self cleaning Too?
