Maybe you/we/I don't see a direct effect TODAY in turning someone in... But I bet a while back hiring illegals to frame here and there was also "none of my business" now it's a MAJOR issue. (of course geographic regions may vary) but illegals in construction is a MAJOR issue that at one time was "none of my business" but now it is "my business" because it affects MY industry.
Believe me, I know about illegal immigrants working in contruction. It's as bad here as anywhere.

Sad to say, but I think a majority of framers here have illegals working on their crew. It was not that way when I was a framer. Calling in on them will have no affect, this is a sanctuary city.

I've even thought about calling in on a unpermitted job once. My neighbor who was having a major remodel done on her house last summer. The biatch called code enforcement on me twice, once because I left wood in my trailer when it was parked in my driveway. The other time it was cause one of my vehicles was parked blocking the sidewalk. Really drawing at straws on that one, she must have read a code book to find out that was a violation. I asked the young lady who was sent out why she wasn't giving a warning to all the other folks in the neighborhood doing the same thing? Cause no one has called in on them she said.

Why didn't I call in on her? That would be justifying the code enforcers jobs. Regulatory jobs which I think should not exist. He may not have figured out what kind of biatch he was going to work for, but I all ready knew so I had pity for him. Sure enough the poor aggie has been over there countless times since he finished. Either he does shiatty work or my thoughts about her were true.

Far this thread goes, we've have beaten it to death, I'm done here.

MAYBE just MAYBE if everyone would have risen up and took a stand against illegal workers in our industry it might be in better shape today... Just a thought.

How is an illegal worker (not paying taxes, etc) any different than an illegal contractor (not getting permits, etc)... I am fairly certain they are about the same. The problem with illegal workers (condensed version) is that they don't pay taxes, work for lower wages, etc (we all know the issues) not getting a permit is the same as NOT paying taxes and working for lower wages.

Actually the man I bid this job to has a Spalish Crew in tow and they did a straight up dress right dress framing job. Thus my idea They would get the Deck Job.

As an ol man in a wheelchair, unable to move around like the Detroit guys I have to say >> I did my time in the late 60s after two years in the Military,US not RA, I got full bore into the " They got the Guns but we got the Numbers, gunna Win Ya we taken over " After random kill shots from the military m 14s at Kent State..... I could pretty much see how the Thing was going after being on both sides of that rifle.

Protest, Cop calling, oooooooo that Guy has no Lice..cense " Lets change things They are stealing from Me GD ******** !!!

Forget it Boys !!! We are not in Kansas anymore toto. If someone gets a Job that I bid,and gets it way under what I could do, Detroit excluded of course, it's time for damage control not runing over to the Blue Meanies with some stupid, time wasteing, right the wrong " I am going to make a differance " Cacca.

You will Not make a differance. It dont work that way now a days nor has it Ever. Contractors driving around calling in work they class out as "Hack " stirkes me as a total waste of time... or an ego fill up,Not that killer needs a top off in that area...

After talking to that young yankee I sent off an e-mail to Him asking if I could stop by every now and then just to see how its done. The man was good with it and mentioned he had done over 300 decks, this one was tiny compaired to his normal work up north.

Damage Control. I figure I could learn something..even in my chair with the oxy mask on.
