The right primer is key. And yes, it should all be primed before caulking and painting. :thumbsup:

On PVC latex/acryllics adhere very well, no need for a primer. Although that stuff does expand/contract quite a bit so your best bet is going to be a paintable silicone for caulking. Try GE Groove caulk, or BM moorlastic trim and crown sealant.

Dumb question, but why would you want to paint something white, that is already white?

 

For some carpenters Caulk is required to fill the joints. It looks really ugly not painted. So does pvc after some time in the weather.

 

No kidding I'm baffelld too. Come to think of it there's plenty of stuff out there they've gone great lengths to produce , I can't dream up a use for ,like .99 polyester brushes. Do people really buy that pvc stuff or is it really just sitting on the rack there stuck motionless in time. I got it once for the bathtub floor edge, it's all I can think of.

 

pvc looks like hell after a few years if not painted,the edges are impossible to keep clean and mold up fairly quickly

We have used Kleer, which has a finished edge. Not the greatest edge, but it's better than raw Azek. Use the Azek screws with the plugs and durabond for the adhesive and you have a pretty damn good looking job without paint and filler. Just my opinion.

Why not install the flat stock with cortex screws and use a little bond n fill to fill any finish nail holes on smaller moldings?
