Want to know about anyone experience with this Chinese Fir AKA Import Cedar? A Dallas Texas local supplier is carrying it and wanted to know if anyone has used it. Our cheap fence material is spruce, but this stuff look better and not bad priced either.

Let the cussin and discussing begin..!! LOL

You mean there is something other than YellowWood in the South?:jester:

I have test used "lower price" Cedar and Cypress, the other woods avail here. I did not order in bulk cause they came in from the supplier at only 1/2 inch rather than a 5/8 or full board.

The cypress looked good in the beginning, but I dont like how it is weathering. It is turning black on the wood grain. looks like a bad stain.

Also, check the width as well, is it a 6 in board or or 5 3/4?

I have used the Chilean pine a ton. It is good.

I used that chinese cedar on a deck last year, it was a 5/4x5 board priced pretty cheap, probably from the same supplier as I know my supplier has a yard in Dallas. It's lighter in color than western red cedar, kinda like incense cedar grown in northern Ca. I had no problems with the wood nor did my customer.
