My Bostitch framing gun will handle both. I do it all time. Gotta be 28 degree wire. Hope this helps:thumbsup:

As a general rule, I only shoot what the gun says to shoot. You wouldn't put a shotgun shell in a rifle, right?

I can't see a legitimate reason why you can't use paper bound nail strips. I bet the brand of gun you only makes wire collated nails, that's the only reason I can see they would recommend that.

Bostitch makes a few clipped head framing nailers that shoot both clipped and round. So if your gun is yellow, you may be in luck.
(actually, you are not in luck, bostitch guns kinda suck)

Put the paper collated nails in your strip framing nailer and pull the trigger.

Do you have a hypothesis as to what may happen?

Let me give you another important variable in this experiment.

The paper collated nails are set at 30 degrees. Knowing this would you still think it will fire?

I'll tell you exactly what will happen.

The driver blade on your stick nailer will sheer the top front of the head off of the nail, and the driver blade will become stuck between the nail throat port and the shank of the nail.

More than likely, you will drive the nail halfway though the bottom part of the magazine sleeve.

Get out the Allen wrenches now, and a pair of side cutters, and a long thin screw driver.

( and unplug the gun from the air hose before you start working to clear that jamb).

They make 28 degree clipped head framing nails for strip\stick nailers.
They do make clipped head framing nailers that shoot full head nails as well as clipped.

 

Brand and model #, look up info on manu web site. That is the only way you will really know.

I would not do it, I have 2 different types of nailers and the nails are not interchangable, I would not try either, not worth it.

Never use a fastener that the gun wasn't specifically designed for. At a minimum, you will get a jam, but you're likely to also damage the nail gun. Personal injury is also a possibility. If the gun specifically says wire welded collation, the paper will likely interfere with the advancing mechanism.

 

What I've found is if they are paper bound and the same angle my old PC will shoot both..I just make sure the mechanism is well lubed.......cuts down on jams

Can't even remember the last time I've seen clipped heads on a job.

What is the point of a clip head nailer? I used to have one when I first got started. I used it to hang MaxiPlank siding. I soon dumped it as it was heavier than a full head gun and the clip heads wouldn't pass inspection for framing around here.

I ask again, what is the point?

 

I use a clipped head nailer with Paslode Roundrive nails. I prefer the paper collation as you don't have plastic bits hitting you in the face and flying all over the place.

 

Some places allow clipped heads, and they are cheaper to buy then full round nailers. At least from what Ive seen. And for the record, I do NOT use clipped head, EVER.

 

Some my paslode strip nailers are at least 10 years old. Paslode change from clip head to round drive about six or seven years ago. We had trouble with the first generation of nails that came out. They would jam in the gun. Paslode has since figured it out and we haven't had any trouble shooting the rounddrives since.
