Service call a while back, customer said bulbs kept burning out and flickering. Arrived to find 100w lamp installed in an enclosed fixture (typically, that means 60w max).

I see the same thing with can lights with a thermo protector. "Why is my light going on and off all the time?"

I wish those "Max wattage" stickers weren't stuck onto the outside of fixtures, globes, lenses, etc. Annoying. Put it inside like the old days.

Can anyone tell me why they add "or cfl equivalent?" In other words, only a 13w cfl, which will produce 13 watts of heat. My theory is that it gets too hot for the cfl, not the fixture, if you use more.

Oh wait, you mean they put those stickers on there for a reason? I thought their sole purpose was to get the customer to ask me if I could take them off which then leads to me explaining their significance.
