I have this white stain, haze, residue, whatever you want to call it on some Brazilian Walnut Azek decking. I have 17 man into hours trying to clean this deck so far, and nothing seems to help. We have tried getting on our hands and knees and scrubbing, have tried Zep 505, Krud Kutter, and Simple Green, and have washed it multiple times.

What's weird is that we were able to get it off the vertical boards on the skirting and scrubbing a few times, but flat horizontal boards will not come clean. Sometimes the stains get better after cleaning, and sometimes worse.:001_unsure:

Azek thought it might be soap scum, so we tried washing it again, and sent 2 guys over. One to scrub, and one to rinse. Sure enough, recieved a phone call that afternoon that the white came back.

When the boards are wet, you can't see anything, so it's about impossible to know if you got them clean or not. We tried both air drying, and wiping dry with a towel. Neither Helped.

Any suggestions?? I believe the white was originally gravel dust from the lumber yard. I've had decking look similar in the past, but it always just power washed off. This is the first time I've used Azek in years, and as of now, I don't believe I'll be using it anymore.

I have discussed it with Azek, and after the cleaning didn't work, the rep suggested to make a warranty claim. These deck boards are plugged, and all under aluminum railings and posts. I REALLY don't want to have to replace them. As I understand it, Azek does not pay labor costs either, correct? I already have too much time invested into cleaning it, I don't want to have to take everything apart...

I have another photo, but the site won't let me load it.

There are a few areas that have what look like water spots, but from the white.

Looks like calcium deposits. Did you try CLR? Any contact with masonry preducts?

This is from the Azek installation guide:

"It is important during construction, the deck’s
surface stay clear from excessive build-up of dirt,
sand, and dust from tile, concrete, landscape blocks,
or any other masonry products. If these materials
are not removed immediately, the deck surface will
become difficult to clean and can potentially damage
the deck’s surface finish."

It's certainly possible that dust from the lumber yard settled on the decking and affected the finish. Was the decking obviously dirty/dusty when you took delivery?

If it was cement dust, it more than likely burned the surface.

What happens, is cement dust gets on it, the sun heats it up and then you hit it with water to clean it off. A fatal mistake.

Washing hot cement is a no no on plastic.

There could easily been cement dust in the gravel at your yard.

First thing I'd try is CLR.

Today we are using deckorators capped composite. Had the same stuff on the decking, from the lumber yard. Before we installed it I was playing around a bit with cleaning it.

With the capped composite, it just came right off with water. Worked just as good as the cleaners. We taped it off in sections, and used a few cleaners and just water. We wanted to see what cleaner worked the best. They all had the same results, clean. Why does the Azek hold the stain so well? Is it the type of PVC used, the finish, just the fact that they're different materials?

I'm going to try the CLR tomorrow, and we'll see what happens.

Id loose it. Did try 1000 steel wool with simple green? That suck and so does the warranty for not covering labor

I have the same problem with a white haze on my deck. The deck was installed six years ago and until now I was just using water and a soft brush with an extension pole and all the surface dust came off along with any small issues of mold on the composite. For some reason there is a white haze this year so I called Azek and they suggested there a Azek deck cleaner. I figured they should know what they’re talking about so I purchased 4 gallons and the haze is still there. I called the company back and they told me I have to file a claim and did not provide any more assistance about how to remove the film. This is the second problem I have had with this product since it has been installed. It has way too much expansion and contraction & even with glue and screws, it still moves way too much. I bought the Brazilian walnut XLM which was supposedly one of their top of the line and they guaranteed very minimal expansion and contraction which is not the case at all. Now I have this film which I am unable to remove but I will try the CLR and the vinegar as some people suggested. Thanks for the help on this thread hopefully something works, How do you spent a lot of money on the deck expecting way more then they provided, very very disappointed in this company all the way around.

Same here. Azek / TimberTech has a terrible warranty process which is mostly a defense mechanism so that they can avoid any responsibility. My deck is eight years old and has looked rather poor for the last two, and none of their cleaners or DeckMax solves the issue.

I this deck has been far more work than a wood deck… And it still looks rather crappy. This is a picture after cleaning with recommended brush, and cleaners, gentle pressure washing, and an application of DeckMax. The DeckMax representative seems to think this looks acceptable? Curious what others think…

Just got word yesterday Azeks is having many problems with this haze. Mike. ___ [emoji631] [emoji631]
I have Fiberon decking, installed in 2010. Started seeing the haze and tried all the things. Looked up The company website and saw that the no fade policy was for life. Called the company and they admitted that the product from early in was defective and the haze actually is part of the material. Can ONLY remove it with a special brass bristle brush. They sent two guys out to do the whole deck and it worked for about a year. I asked what would happen when it came back and they said I could just call them again and they would send people out to do it. Seems incredibly stupid, but OK. They said now they have remedied the product issue and it no longer happens. Yay….for new customers I guess? I tried this year to have them come back out again and I got an official letter from the warranty department saying they were just going to throw money at me which would cover about 1/8 of the cost of replacing the decking or now I have a $25,000 check that looks like it cost about $3000.
