What to do about this ridiculously placed header

Alright so I’m doing some remodeling and expanding the bathroom that was hardly a bathroom. For the sake of not having a 20 paragraph post I’ll get right to it. I need to rough out a door on this wall, I remove the garbage 1/4” osb to find a random header. The rough opening needs to be 32” x 80” for the door I’m installing and I really would prefer not to make it a hobbit door.

So here’s what I would like to do, I’d like to set some jack studs doubled up where my rough opening would be and just cut out that entire section of header then make a new header above the door kinda like normal but the header I install for the door would be attached to the cripple studs above the existing header.

or

should I set jack studs to support the existing header, cut the header and run king studs then new jacks to support my new header?

Okay so I pulled more of the osb off of the wall so you guys can see more of what I’m dealing with.

Idk what this header was for maybe like a bay window or something it’s 74” w and 72” h.

That turned 2x4 is doing absolutely nothing it’s not touching the subfloor. It was put in just so whoever built the nightmare of a wall that I removed had something to nail to other than just the header. I think the air handler was installed after this previous renovation because they notched out the backside of the header to make a spot for the drain lines. On the other side is the drain lines for the air handler in the attic. The pipes are another obstacle I have to overcome because they protrude out of the subfloor about 2” on what will be the inside of the bathroom. I already have a plan for that.

Really I’m just looking for other professional opinions on how to go about cutting this header because I keep second guessing myself. Or I could just say screw it and cut a door down to fit the 72” opening under the header but I’m 6’1” and it kinda pisses me off that I build such nice things for other people but have to deal with a hobbit door in my house because I’m just not 100% sure on what route to take.
