In the morning we prepped up another shower for a linear drain install downtown Vancouver. We need to firestop around the cast iron drain.

I have had these move on me before. It is very hard to tell what will happen when the spray foam expands so we used some scrap plastic, a straight edge, off cuts of green eboard and my Mapecem Pre-Mix bags to keep the drain still while the spray foam does it's thing.

Set another two tiles today and then David and I booked it for Grouse Mountain.

Meet up with my wife and girls for an afternoon of Spring Skiing!

Mitered niche almost done.

Looks great guys.

I thought the 2'x2' tiles would be pretty easy - no way.

My large saw is down and we only have the mini MK and grinder with us. The finish is popping on the rip cuts so we need to stay a 1/8" back of the mark and fine tune in with the polishing pads.

David killed the 1/4 tile cut out with double back miters for the niche.

Grouse was fantastic yesterday. It's only a 8 minute drive from my home and a 7 minute tram ride up.

Getting my rentals, pass, ski gear on - that took 2 hours  I thought it would be fun for my kids and David to ski together. Great stress reliever - we have been under a lot of pressure and many jobs are finally wrapping up. Felt great to just skip out on work for a half day...

JW...whats up with the small cut up top? Did it lay out that way with the niche?

The tiles on the wall are 2'x2' and the niche is 11 7/8" x 11 7/8". I want the accent tile to run into the niche and along the back of the niche. We are grading the space between the wall tiles so the accent tiles sit flush. Hit it first with a 3/16" V Groove but that was still light so went back with a 1/4" square knotch and then knocked it flat.

I'll post the design page so the layout makes more sense later tonight.

Man my legs are sore. I only did 5 runs and I can feel it today. Slept like a rock last night. Came down off the mountain, went and played pool with David and Ass Kicked him 6-1 while doing the weeks hours and then worked on my LED feature for my book keeper till 10:30PM

Nice to see the family inbetween!

Had that same problem with this band of glass...used 41/4's to build out then scuffed the surface and set the glass. You can see the 41/4's in the first pic on the left behind the band.

Good idea on the 4 1/4's Craig.
Thanks....we had them left over in the trailer and they happened to be the right thickness. Spur of the moment thing we thought would work. And it did....

Nice work Tile man. The island looks odd to me now? Maybe it just needs some toe kick. With that floor, i think I'd take it out all together.

Really like the fireplace being in the kitchen area like that!
Thanks, I used black vinyl cove under the cabinets, just didn't get a pic of that part.

I thought the rest of the kitchen needed to be taken out also, especially the counter tops.

How's things in the Burgh?

The shower's niche is coming along.

Back cutting the tile so you can install with a mitered edge is worth the effort.

David is loving the fresh stock of polish pads. Yesterday he said

"This 50 Grit is just melting the tile"

I set the framing a little high for the tile layout so we had to go savage on the tile's back side to make it fit.
