It's been a little dead hereabouts lately, so I thought I would try and liven things up a little.

Post some pics of your current tile projects in progress. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

With the quartz lock2, or at least the high white color......I've been going nuts trying to get it off of marble and other high gloss tile
But my rep told me last week to go over tile with a wet sponge before grouting and man! It's crazy how much easier it was. All the other colors I've never had a problem.....can't believe something that simple works

I noticed that on their online video, the tile is a 8.5" porc with a rough stone texture sooo I figured that i'd better do that before hand.
My supplier got stuck with an order so I ended up with killer price on thinset... I got Durabond D-20 modified to set ditra to the ply and Laticrete 317 for setting tile... 9 bucks a bag, that's good for here!

Here are a few excerpts I found:

"As you press the DITRA it will displace the thinset for a moment under the pressure but then try to return to its memorized shape and could create voids under the DITRA."

"Last year I was putting down a lot of ditra and got tired of crawling around on the floor pushing it in by hand. So I bought a 100lb. roller just for that purpose. Then....
I went to the Schluter class about a month later and they specifically advised against using a heavy roller on Ditra. They said the only roller they would recommend would be a 35 pounder."

I'd say call and get Herr's blessing before using one.

It's gotta be modified, mixing instructions say to mix with water. Admix only required for exterior installations. It does specifically say not for use over plywood though. But that probably means not for use over ply to set tile.

I'm not overly familiar with Durabond setting materials, though I have used them without issue on a few jobs where setting materials were supplied to me.

D-20 is slightly modified but not enough to show up on the chart so I'm gonna use that to set my swan base... I found a different supplier close to my town, Dauphin Tile. They stock D-40 modified so I gotb that to set the ditra and they also have Ditraset(yay) so I will buy from them and the other nice thing is they have the huge rolls of ditra so they cut off what I needed and charged me for that instead of buying a whole roll so that worked out good.
Ditra set is 27 bucks a bag there... but only place around here to get it :(

Ditraset is good, real good actually. But not $27 good.

I can get Ditraset for under $15. But I can also get Kerabond for under $9. Also, I can get a jug of Keralastic (latex) so I don't have to lug around different bags of thinset. Just add the latex to what I need modified and the rest is for setting over Ditra.

I still gotta work on the price with them since I just showed up to buy the stuff... I called schluter and they said ditraset or kerabond is the best, laticrete is so/so and custom is the bottom rung... noone here has kerabond and this Dauphin tile is the only place that has ditraset so I guess I'm payin more for now. :( I called bostik n they won't sell me a skid
