It's been a little dead hereabouts lately, so I thought I would try and liven things up a little.

Post some pics of your current tile projects in progress. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

I'm hooked! Finally was able to afford the TLS system...... Can never do tile without it now!

(and note to self: when you buy limestone cut in versailles that is designed to be grout less......it takes a lot of cutting to get a grout joint....it got so frustrating, that I just gave up on the designed pattern)
Looks like a giant waste of time too me. I have never had an issue getting it flat. I have not tried it so I am likely wrong, just an initial reaction. Like the purple board. I have the same color going i have one of our current projects. Damn diy channel has turned everything purple and blue. Those borax studs only come in 16 footers around here which is such a pain in the rear for 9' ceilings.

I just watched the video. It says if your nit a pro then the system is perfect for you.....
I have been doing tile for 17 years without it and it looks like a major PITA plus way over priced. If every floor I did was level I could understand but now I'm raising large tile without dotting the backs? I wonder how many hollow pieces it makes when there is a low point. No thanks... I'll stick to my mud or my self leveling. Not saying it's not for everyone just not for me. I've seen some pictures of tile jobs on this site with them used. Most of the tile mechanics I work with would laugh if any one pulled out something like that! So would I but it doesn't mean it's a bad thing, just a giant waste of time to me. Once again America...." We will buy anything."

I never have an issue getting flat either.......it just helps get that last 1/64" out. It's precision really

I mean a level will do fine for laying out tile......but isn't a laser more precise? Same thing.

I do agree that it's expensive......and may not work out for every job

A little HPG. and Mapeband.

I used the mapeband to also prepare the temporary curb.

Barrier free linear drain job.
Ya....might do some of that next time in addition to noble.
I flood tested twice and failed. I ended up pulling the drain apart and found that the wall side of my drain didn't seal to it in some areas......in addition to not getting that ring on the drain completely centered of screw holes.

How long do yo test? I filled with water for about 4 hours before draining.

Going custom on a tile insert install.

So what do you do if the guy installing the slab in your shower does install it just right? Do you rip the slabs out and start from scratch?

I wish we had.

This custom repair took me nearly 5 hours to rig up.

Those of you familiar with this drain will see the changes.

They include custom flat bar spacers and side panels to extend the drains with.

The job downtown started up the waterfall today!

Love this feature.

The white strips are light diffusers. And once fully hooked up the waterfall has it's own lighting...

Original shower had drywall covering this concrete angled formwork. I'm thinking it is the bottom side of the exterior concrete steps and should be treated as an exterior wall.

The client does not want the foot print changed (by changed I mean reduced in size) so I'm thinking about covering it with Noble Seal TS as my vapor proofing and then using some hilti pins, rigid insulation, expanded lath and a mortar skim coat as prep for this steam shower.

Another new set up and one I'm sure not to see again any time soon.

False Creek Steam Shower.

Electrical and Plumbing Inspections passed now I need to get the flood test done. Inspector wants to see insulation and vapour barrier same time.
John, you need a helper to clean that job up. :whistling:

Had to drop the tools and race back for soccer yesterday. The job sites are always a little tidier when David is on the clock.

Heading back in today to lay the pre-slope. 1/4" - 1" pre-slope from the clamping drain to the bench face. We are installing over concrete - no radiant heat under the shower. Mapecem Pre-Mix Fast Setting Screed Mortar with slurry coat.

I set a screed guide at the back of the shower and either side of the drain. We will slope from 1/2" fat to 1/4" side to side and 1" to 1/4" back to front.

I will install the Noble Seal TS for the base on Monday or Tuesday.

Proposed layout...

This drain was installed a hair to far off the back wall. Not much I could do with this install.

I had two options.

Leave the drain to far off the wall or cut into the micro lam so the plumber could slip on his no hub fitting.

The extra Schluter edge looks good I think behind the strainer against the back wall.

Some pics from yesterday.

The picture with the HPG is showing the detail I spec'd for the change in grade from the level tile to the sloped shower floor. The shower entry door and door to the master bedroom are about 6" apart. This little lip can do wonders for holding water inside the wet zone.

The second picture is of a sheet of Green EBoard. I made those cuts with only a box cutter. No drywall saw used at all. I scored each side with 3-4 passes and snapped with finger pressure.

The bottom pic is our latest tub to shower conversion. I'm using 1/2" board straight to the bottom and will use "Tucked Corners" on this install.

I left the Spider web done over my screed mortar last night and it prevented the screed mortar from fully drying out. Should be good to go for Noble Seal TS today.

I'm building this steam shower with Green EBoard and Noble Seal TS and tried something new yesterday.

I had used some metal track as a solid blocking course on the bottom of the wall studs (metal) and this kicked out the bottom a bit. Since I used wafer head screws to attach the track this kicked it out a little more.

I love Noble Seal TS (Dal Seal TS) but do not love the none fleece covered 2" bands. I find they do not want to sit down so flat and lately we have been stripping these 2" edge pieces leaving us with a 56" section. It generates a lot of scrap pieces good for nothing... or do they

I decided to screw these scraps to the wall studs and they worked perfectly! I bet they even offer up a hair of thermal heat loss prevention...

Worked for me.

Barrier Free Shower - Point Grey, Vancouver

Last year I renovated this clients father home. He is thrilled with his level access shower and now it's time to tackle her own master en-suite.

I'm still pitching the steam shower up-sell but for right now we are measuring up for a new linear drain on the back wall.
