Have you ever tried the Ardex 1200?
I don't have much experience with SLC , but every time I've tried to fill low spots with that stuff it's been a nightmare.
Yes, I have. SLC's are SLC's in my opinion. I haven't had much of an issue working with any of them so I have never been picky. I was close to The Depot so that's what I grabbed.

Next one. This project was one that I got a call from the client saying he had demoed everything and didn't have time to install. He already had all of the materials...at least most of them.

I had my new vendor price out Schluter products and they have agreed to keep a lot of products in stock for me. I am switching to Kerdi Board and Ditra instead of Durock and Backer. There will be a small learning curve, but I think we will transition nicely. If Mike Holmes can use it, I shouldn't have a problem.
Really curious to hear your opinion on Kerdi Board after you do a few showers with it. Ditra heat is awesome. I'm far from loving any backer/waterproofing system I've tried so I just have to settle on trying to find the lesser of all evils.

Rob, what do you do at doorways when doing heated floor in relation to floor heights? Saddle?
This one we are butting carpet. The carpet has no trim so I'll Schluter trim the tile.

Looks nice. Any tricks to get the slc laying nice? I've only done one in floor and it kicked my ass.
Don't stop. Keep the buckets coming and don't overwork. The S in SLC stands for self. So it will do most of the work for you. All you are there for is to guide it.

I mix the SLC in totes, I can mix 2 bags at a time. Make sure you mix it as thin as the directions state, this a product you pour not place.

I use a bow rake to massage the SLC, drag it around to get it leveling then leave it alone. Tines down without floor heat, tines up with floor heat.

Find the high spot of the floor, work from there.

Second on mixing as thin as directed.

I work with a helper and we usually have to mix in another location. One bag in a 5 gallon bucket mixed is heavy enough. But if I were mixing in the area I would definitely mix as much at one time as possible.

Drywall straight up to the shower?
What else would you do? Drywall starts, Denshield begins, shower glass installed over Denshield, water will never see the drywall.

I picked up an Ardex kit with my NTCA vouchers earlier this year.
The premeasured buckets make consistent mixes very simple.
Had that kit for over 10 years now. The smoother rusted away to nothing years ago and the plastic got brittle on a few of the measuring buckets but the rest of it is holding up. I use a 2' finishing trowel to smooth and feather edge with. A set of cleats is extremely useful as well.

.... Any tricks to get the slc laying nice? ....
Go right to 95% of the maximum water, and follow the mixing instructions. I talked to an engineer for RapidSet, I think it was, and he said the biggest problem is that people usually don't mix long enough or fast enough. Do not think that you can mix by hand. Something about getting the wetting down to some very minute particle level. When properly mixed, SLCs are practically like water, and the notion of it not laying down nicely won't enter your mind.

Ok So i made a backlit glass inset for my own shower.
I started with some 1/4" laminated safety glass (obscured) and Hirsch glass mosaic, bonded with clear silicone.

framed the shower to handle the inset so it would be flush with the backer board.
Installed a led lighting system in the wall unit
Installed the glass assembly with Silka A1

I am using some 3D tile and will post more pics as I proceed
