It's been a little dead hereabouts lately, so I thought I would try and liven things up a little.

Post some pics of your current tile projects in progress. The good, the bad, and the ugly.

Yes white and patterned are in, it’s personally too busy for me and not the best resale value. The best resale value is to go more neutral but few listen to that advise. I try to stress that you never know when something health related will put you into a need to sell or to get equity out of your home, so keep your decisions to a neutral mass appeal and use towels, accessories have a high tendency to become dated within 10 years and then become a negative valuation on a homes value as it is seen as in need of a remodel. Marble is a classic that holds its value IF the design is kept traditional or simple and clean. Highly patterned and mixed styles will not hold value over time.

Yes you can do stone in a bathroom and yes in a shower. I just read a White Paper on 6 side sealing of marble/stone tiles and how much it is being used in massive projects in Europe, Asia and the Middle East. Do a google search of Technical White Paper Six Sided Sealing by Rod Sigman CTC, CCTS Business Development Manager for Technical Installation and Care Products. Yes it’s more time consuming meaning your prices need to reflect that. But basically you dip the tiles/stone mosaics etc in Aqua Mix Penetrating sealer for 15 seconds depending on how pourus the stone is and then wipe and allow to dry 48 hours and it makes the stone water resistant and of course there more to it so read it yourself as it’s a great resource. I printed it out and will file it as I prefer hard copy as I have went back to find resources later to find them long gone. But this is something we should all be learning due to the massive increase in the love of stone and especially marble in baths and kitchens. There is a house in Sarasota FL at the Ringling Museum (which may have changed names, not sure but it was named for the Ringling Brothers who I believe built it) but there is an all Marble bathroom in theat house built back in the 1800s and it is probably the most gorgeous bath I’ve ever seen and if built today would be spot on spectacular! I will try to take pictures of the shower I’m about to do but sadly I am notorious for forgetting to do so. I get in work mode and forget. This also means the cuts must be sealed and allowed to dry so field tiles must be done first then cuts then wait then cuts installed etc. I have sadly found most people want to pay for or don’t have the work ethic to be detail oriented to do fine finish work. That is how I ended up getting my Commercial Contractors Liscense years ago and then became a Designer. There is nothing worse than a Designer who has no knowledge of building and structure!!!! They will tell a Client yes you can have anything you want in 8 weeks .....without telling them how much it will cost or take until the project is 25% into demolition......if they can’t tell you how it was built they can’t tell you how much it will cost or how long it will take to do it!!!

Use towels and accessories to express personal style. Thing that can be changed easily afford not only the best resale value but also hold the longest satisfaction quotient because it’s simple to get a complete change of style the most affordably when trends/colors change which they do approximately every 5 years. It’s called built in obsolescence and how the design world keeps us spending our time and money.

Regrouting/Water Damaged Shower Repair - As seen in the second picture, the grout was worn out. The customer was very unhappy with the shower's appearance as it was moldy. It turned out there was water damage to the shower. The bottom row tiles inside the shower had to be repaired followed by a regrouting job.
