Framing some basement and have a lot of rips form 2x4 and 6. I would like it to be used for blocking for sheetrock. So, What is minimum good and minimum acceptable blocking for sheetrock? I learned long time go 3/4 is minimum for good and 1/2 for acceptable.
Edit is it same numbers for vertical, the walls, and horizontal, ceilings, surfaces.
Is it ok to use 15g finish nails for blocking, as I use it quite often, for example today.

If there’s any movements, the finish gauge nails will just pull out, for blocking on the ceilings and walls at the corners I always had an inch to play with and use ring shank nails!

just noticed your picture in that situation I would want a 2 x 4 at the top!

Thanks for that. I actually have some ring shank at home. I will acutally have other situation to ask but will do tomorrow, can not do without picture.
I just used 15g finish at that horizontal block and it is not way to go? I usually use framing nails but strip is 3/4 thick and plus 1 1/2 2X nail would go through. Yeah need ring shank in combo.

In some cases I use lighter gauge angle steel, especially in truss areas where I'm concerned with uplift. I'll line the upper perimeter at times, isolating both perpendicular and parralel rafters/ trusses to wall connections.

3/4 thickness minimum for ceiling when considering drywall is fastened to it 1st. Corners often need more thickness if you consume 1/2" of it with an intersecting sheet.

3/4 thick x 2.5"+ quality plywood strips..instead 3/4" thick natural wood...100 % glue if worried about splitting with natural wood furring strips.....Gluing wouldn't do much for screw splitting in the second arrow's application of 1x2" ...IMHO

A 🤡Super cheapskate could pre drill the drywall screws where needed......👨‍💻
