Hey guys, newbie here just getting my technician license. I'm having a hard time wrapping my head around some of the study material, especially what to do with the extra pesticide and rinse water. Can anyone shed some light for me?

1) You mix up a fipronil product perfectly, and spray all the mixture on location just like your supposed to. Now it's time to clean your sprayer. Do you rinse it and just spray the rinse water at the customers house? Are you supposed to take it back to the office and clean it there? If so what do you do with the rinse water then?

2) You mix up the same fipronil product, but this time you make too much and you have half a gallon of mixture left. What do you do with the extra then? Your not supposed to leave it in the sprayer, so do you transfer it to some type of container so you can use it somewhere else at a later date? What do you do with unused mixtures?

Any info you can provide would be much appreciated!

Thanks for the quick reply!

So if you don't rinse after each application, how often should you clean the sprayer? Once or twice a year?

Also, if we are not rinsing all the time, does that mean that I should have multiple tanks, for each type of pesticide I'll be using? Or does the residue not matter? I.E. a non-repellant with a repellant

Thanks again for the answers!

Maybe that wasn't the best example. Please remember I'm very new and may not ask the best questions.

A better question might be this. Say I have a hand sprayer with Termidor SC for exterior foundation spraying. This product isn't supposed to be used indoors according to the label. So say I spray the exterior with Termidor, and need to switch to another product for the baseboards and such inside. Should I rinse the tank in this situation? Or should I just have a dedicated tank for the Termidor, and another tank for the indoor product?

Triple rinse, then mix Termidor in b&g. Apply till gone. Don't mix up more than needed. Easy way to do it is get all the way around lightly and go back and use the rest, so you won't have 20 feet left and nothing to spray. Triple rinse and pour rinsate along foundation. Mix new product.

Be thorough in initial rinsing as you don't want any repellent left in your sprayer.

Be sure to drain wand and hose while rinsing. If the top is off you can hold it up and press the valve and it will flow back in. Then after rinsing I put the top on and pump a time or two and let clean water go through before adding chemical.

Take the in line filter out of the hose at least monthly and clean it off. I just remove mine, but while this leads to less frequent clogs, it makes them harder to clear as they will be in the nozzle and not the filter screen. How frequently it clogs up is due to the amount of debris you have in the water or on the pump, what chemicals you use, and how long or how frequently you let the sprayer sit with chemical in it.

we use multiple sprayers. One sprayer for Pyrethroids and one for Termidor type products. I never mix the two. I also carry a third sprayer for organic products. If I don't use it all, I will use it on the next service that needs that type of product. For interior service I have 2 hand tanks. Again one for pyrethroid and one with a non repel-ant Alpine wsg for me. Pesticides are difficult to dispose of, if not applied.

Rinsate from hand cans or from empty pesticide containers are (at least in California) dumped into a power spray rig tank to be applied later.
