Ply is code here and I have no complaints, I hate the sawdust from cutting OSB, somehow it always gets inside my shirt.

There's no way a couple days of being wet would do that much damage unless it's been sitting outside, uncovered for a long time before you bought, and installed it. I would imagine you'd notice if it was squeezing out water every time you sunk a nail though.

Colour me wrong, 5/8" OSB can be used for flooring here. I've never seen it used as flooring though, which lead to me assuming it was in fact against code.

Maybe you get different OSB south of the border but I couldn't imagine using 5/8" OSB as flooring, sounds like a nightmare in an open build. I can't picture nails or staples really biting all that well either, I envision problems getting finished flooring down tight on top.
