New to the forums, just looking for some reassurance in a 'project'. Friend of mine bought a decent size safe, weights about 700 lbs, and we need to get it down the stairs tot he basement. For safety I don't want anyone behind/down from the safe so my thought is to lower it down the stairs using 2x6's as glides on the stairs and a 2ton chain comealong. The side door opens in line with the stairs. I was planning on using 2 2x6's on either side of the door opening, sitting flat on the brick exterior, with a 4x4 across the doorway(so it looks like an H) to lower it down. My question is will that be enough to hold the weight?

Thanks for the reassurances. I figured I was going overboard, but it's always nice to get a second opinion. Never hurts to be too safe.
