Website done a few months ago and still not performing
Hey Guys i had my website redone earlier this year. Prior to getting my site redone, my old website had great position on goolge and in the maps (was always 1st or 2nd in the organic search). Now i am located at the bottom of the 2nd page and not getting any calls tracked from google. Looking for advice. The website is www.jpplumbingandheating.com

Did you back up the old site and save it?
the old site was a template site. i wanted to do something else and got talked into doing another site. same domain name and it was suppose to be a custom site. never backed anything up. i feel like i got taken for a huge ride on this.
I would contact Steve from CBS creative, Darren Slaughter or Ben from Blue Corona in no particular order. Get another new site imo. That site is missing some elements such as geo markup, contact forms, interlinking, separate town pages, the page titles are meh, I didnt check the photos but they dont appear to be very good looking regardless. A template photo can be used in areas of your site to make it correlate a message without implying its your work.
Im not a fan of the color combo much either.
The reason your not ranking on google places is due to the merger with G+ for business. Im not sure if you did that? You should verify your website as well and set it up as publisher if not author as well.

Then custom site is loosely defined. Unfortunately you're very correct about being taken for a huge ride.it was suppose to be a custom site. never backed anything up. i feel like i got taken for a huge ride on this.
The part about no backups is especially astounding. That is beyond inexcusable. I wouldn't even attempt to be nice when dealing with that level of incompetence, nor will I hold back on publicly stating that failure to create backups is a special kind of stupid. Okay no jokes about how I really feel.
Let's look at the positive though. It used to rank, that's good, recovery should be possible providing they didn't do something even more crazy like spam 20 some thousand bogus backlinks all over the Internet (seen that too many times).
Fortunately the Internet Archive may be useful too. Here's a snapshot from the middle of 2011:

There are some HUGE errors with the homepage. I am sure the search engines are penalizing you big time for this. Go to validatior.w3.org and put in your web address, you'll see what I mean.
The top two say there is no doctype and it's unable to determine parse mode.
Those errors and the others can make it difficult for web browsers to read the code that makes your site and they kind of have to guess. Search bots will find these errors and penalize your site for it.
Your homepage alone has 38 errors and 3 warnings. You should have as close to zero as possible.

yep thats my old website. i thought a custom site would be better for me but thats not the case. the lady who built my site worked for a media company doing sales and she built websites on the side. since then she has been fired from the company she worked for an the company has nothing to do with the site. she also has left the state an i can no longer get a hold of her (not that i would want to at this point anyway) so i guess my question is what do i do next. Should i scrap the site an start over with another one?

I would revert back and see what happens to your search results. Unless a major change was made in how the websites were crawled, the errors and overall efficacy of the new site is damaging your results.
Your OP stated your position used to be good but didn't specify how effective it was. A custom web site should be better just like you figured, the problem here was the execution and not the fact that it's a custom site. I personally favor custom but also do plenty of WordPress sites. The ranking itself is not determined by one or the other.
With your ranking in the tank, I'd say definitely scrap this one, but others posting here already answered that too.
If your rankings tanked, it may be largely about whether or not 301 redirects were properly implemented when your new site went live. If they weren't, it's possible that some of the links your old site had accumulated were lost during the transition to your new site.
Do you have Webmaster tool setup? Is it showing any 404's?
