Yes I am trying to upgrade my wall vent registers. Currently they have the old GE type registers from the 1950s installed. When trying to replace I found that the newer stuff does not cover the area that the GE. It seems as if my ducts are encased in a cement type material. Attached are pics of the register and vent itself. Would I need to remove the wall portions around this vent and remove the cement and simply install drywall to upgrade the registers properly?
