Vinyl soffit over wood?

Writing a bid now for putting up vinyl soffit around an entire (fairly large) home with a lot of high peaks.

Can I just add a lot of venting to the wood, then cover it with the vinyl vented soffit? There is plenty of room on the fascia boards to tack up my j-channel.

I'm hoping to avoid having to pry off 350 linear feat of 1/4" plywood while working from a boom lift and extension ladders, etc.

I'll quote it if needed, but thought I'd check the crowd on this one. The first time I did this (the only other time), it was a small ranch house and removing the wood was no big deal.

By the way, there is not rot on this wood soffit, it's just carpenter bees and woodpeckers beating the hell out of it.

It wasn't necessarily a speed thing, solely. More a safety/risk thing. Way easier to drill holes than be reaching overhead at that height to pry down plywood and pull nails, etc. I think I'll quote it figuring in for taking a hole saw to it. Would I really need one every foot? That's a hell of a lot of holes.

What are you using for soffit?

I usually use center vent so I put a whole every foot. Or I do 2 solid then a full vent, so you can go every 3'

No on the lead paint. It's all stained wood and the house is not old enough for lead.

The soffits as they are now are already vented; I'll assume for the moment that they're vented properly/enough.

If the current vents end up calculating to be enough (and I can see that I'm going to be making an extra trip out there to do come additional calculating), I can't see why I'd remove any of the wood, right? As long as the new vinyl is vented, I wouldn't be restricting any airflow that I can tell.

I appreciate all the feedback. I just want to do right by these folks. The first one went pretty damn smoothly so it's time to up the game a little bit.

Why didn't you mention that the first time?
