It is for females to collect stuff to spend their money on. A collection of I cant wait till I can buy this.

If you run wires and put pink feather boa on them, im sure the ladies will put them on pinterest. :)

Can someone explain the basic concept or use? Is this locally searchable like other major search engines? It seems to be great for photos but there isn't much in electrical worth shooting a picture.

1. Branding
2. You are able to put links on the pictures
3. Networking

I recently heard someone describe Pinterest as a "link dump." It's basically a place where everyone is linking to and from other peoples' websites nonstop. It's a great place to get a lot of links out there if you have photos or ideas that are interesting enough to be re-pinned.

Pinterest is the latest cool place on the web. It's a website where people from around the world are collecting and tagging pictures from around the world.

As neat as it sounds, I'm not sure it's the best good place to invest your time, if you're a local contractor looking for local customers.

Now, I'm not a web expert but I would think, between Facebook and the dozen or so websites that focus on your local community, there are better places for your investment in time.

And if you really want to post lots of photos of your past work onto the Web, consider tumblr . It's a free, easy site that you can use as pin board, a blog, or both.

Thanks Matt,
I click it and it goes to my pinterest page or whatever they call it, maybe you have to have an account...I dunno
Your link worked for me. Just wanted to let you know. I do have a pinterest account set up so that may be the flaw that you have to have an account. Good luck on the marketing. I have used my pinterest account to pin a few items on our website.

I agree with Ben that there's a lot of potential here, especially for contractors who share photos of their best work. A kitchen remodeler, for instance, can show not only the finished remodeled kitchen, but separately show off the shiny new appliances, counters, cabinets, faucets, sinks -- every element that can have a "Wow, I want that!" factor. ;)

Here are a couple of great articles with more info about using Pinterest:

56 Ways to Market Your Business on Pinterest

How and Why to Use Pinterest for Business

Note this line from the Pinterest Terms of Service : "... solely for your personal and non-commercial purposes." So, as with other social media tools, you can't just get on there and start selling your products & services. But as the above articles explain, you CAN benefit from using this service. (Assuming you have the time to add yet another thing to you "To Do" list!)
Thanks so much for the links to the information about how to use Pinterest for building your website and business. I have been wondering how pinterest could help and I really appreciate the information. Good Luck!

I think Pinterest is BETTER than Facebook.

Here is why. Our work is VISUAL, so therefore it is easily shared or repinned.

Facebook is like the high school cafeteria, and Pinterest is an art show.
It is easier to express yourself in art than words.

Top right corner says Add. Click on Add should pop up a small box and one of the options is upload pin. Let me know if this doesn't work. Good luck!

No it doesn't work. I've tried adding a pin, uploading a pin and creating a board. I can upload a pin or website I just can't take a picture from my computer and put it on a board.
Maybe this isn't an option with pinterest.

I set up an account a while ago to post images from both businesses. I think it is a no brainer when it comes to branding and links.

Every new batch of photos creates a spike in website traffic and you would think that eventually it would result in a lead somewhere somehow.

For the little time an effort I'll keep at it.

What does it do when you click on upload pin? I just selected upload pin, it gives me the option to "Choose File" once you click on that it should take you to a browser where you can choose the file from your computer. Select the file then click open, and then it will load the file to pinterest you have to select the board that you want to post your picture to. Also you must type a description, even if it's just a . something must be typed in the description field. Once you type the description click on pin it and it will upload and post to your board that you selected. Here's a link to the file I just uploaded http://pinterest.com/pin/271412315013654975/ Hope this helps and you are able to upload a picture.

I'm hoping this shows a picture of what it looks like when I click on Add at the top of Pinterest. It says Add Pin, to the right of that it says Upload a Pin, and to the right of that Create a Board. You want to click on the middle that says Upload a Pin. Again hoping I posted the picture right, and if not it may not make anymore sense than before.
