Upper header size for gable dormer addition

Hi all first time posting. About the 1000th time on this site tho. Planning to put a gable dormer in and I am trying to size a header that will stretch between tripled up 2x6 existing roof rafters. The span will be 115 1/2 inch from rafter to rafter 10:12 roof pitch. The header will be supporting the cripple rafter above header to existing ridge board and ceiling joist where they intersect with the 4 rafters. I’m getting different code guys telling me wildly varying numbers and am struggling to find something on paper that applies to my situation. Any help would be appreciated

That's a big span for that header. Take it to an engineer, its a small cost to know you're doing it right.

An acquaintance of mine is an architect. He was over and made mention to the tripled up 2x6 rafters on either side of the opening. He told me that the added load from the weight above the header was too much for the tripled up rafters. He suggested a pony wall in the attic directly underneath the ridge board. Which sits directly above the center of the house. If it means that I have to make the opening smaller then so be it. But I’m looking for a solution that allows me to have the dormer while staying in the allowable limits of the triple 2x6 rafters. As for the engineer, I’m speaking to one tomm to get confirmation. Yet real world experience is the most valuable commodity. Hence the reason I’m here asking other opinions

I wasn’t saying the engineer that signs off on plans and the builder executes said plans to design is t responsible if failure occurs. I was speaking about possible change in design or opening distance. Something to help eliminate the need for additional support in the attic with pony wall

I understood your statement the first time regarding not receiving suggestions. Maybe I misunderstood the purpose of the forum. I am working with an architect. And will run the recommendation I received from him to the structural engineer. Only reason I posted in the first place was to gather possible alternates to best suite the particular situation which the SE would work out for themselves.
