Two studs or joists screwed back to back like an I-beam, then the open sides get capped with track and that's screwed to the sides of the joists making one big heavy box.

Just ipe rails with tehk balusters. She did not want more glass to clean and did not like cable rails.

Yes, I am using ipe clips with self tappers.
I will see how it works out.

Do you use track as ledger? With my very limited knowledge of metal framing... it seems like it would be weak at that point if it is just a piece of track. Am I missing something or just ignorant of the strength?

Yes, track lagged to the house.

I guess it more fun then sitting in a cubical farm.

I got mouths to feed and a bad machinery habit to maintain, so I really just like the money part.
