I try to avoid PT when I don't have to use it. I like the foam idea, I never thought of that.

 

i also take off alot of alum.capping.unless the capping wasnt done right, i dont find rotted wood because of the alum.

That first bend you want over 90° but not all the way as far as you can go. Then after the next bend, the 90° go back and hem the first one. Then you just 90 both ends, or do the off sets for the middle, then 90 the ends

I've done it that way too. If I'm going the corner in the soffit I do it like that, but on a long piece like the corner of a porch I do it the other way

For the head piece on the window trim, would you recommend a flat lip that goes up under the siding above or some kind of drip cap situation?

And how should a sil cap be done? Do I need a drip edge or groove?

Either or. If I'm wrapping the window I usually bend the flange up, and tuck it under the house wrap. If I'm trimming in wood or PVC I just use drip cap.

If I'm wrapping a window that already has a drip cap I just tuck the wrap under the drip cap.

with some soffit you can't see the back of the channel but good point:thumbsup:

i rarely do a built in j wrap on windows and doors,but i use it often if i need a quick frieze or on facia thats tight to the house like a cape with no soffit

 

Does this look like it would work in this order ... To create a trim cap that has a channel about 3/4", or half of the trims full thickness?

 

Looking at my drawing, it seems step 5 would crush my previous U shape section and just not work at all....
