Trex has done an extremely good job in marketing themselves. Back in 03 when I was at their factory in Reno they said they wanted to be a "brand". They have achieved that.

I on the other hand do run into a few misguided souls who say they want Trex. I simply tell them that we use Fiberon and they say great. Than we convert 5 estimates into 4 sales every week. Good strong sales I might add 20k-50k average.

People just DROOL over the multi chromatic look that Fiberon Ipe provides. Recently we moved in the Cellular PVC line Fiberon has to offer. Might just as well have strapped myself to a Titan missile

In my part of the world, blue collar, people appreciate the cap stock on all four edges and the ability to use either side. Let alone the savings of not have to deal w/slave masters Trex.

It is ok to run with the crowd, Trex, but I say, "dare to be different, cut your own path", it is by far more rewarding.

I sell a ton of evergrain as well. All my manufactured homes get it because the home manufacturer installs it on them at the factory, so I have to match it. What I like isn't always an option. I also sell TT and Fiberon.

Because of Trex's bad track record over the years, I've stuck with Timber Tech. Recently though, I picked up samples of the latest Trex Transcends colors as well as the 4 Timber Tech Legacy colors. Every one I've showed them to, including potential customers, picked the Trex instantly because of the richer colors and more defined grain. Have you guys had the same experience? And is it safe to assume that Trex's top of the line capped composite is free of the problems they've had in the past?

I have sold 100's of thousands of dollars of Trex Transcends over the last 7 years or so, without any issues. All the Trex problems went away when they discontinued the Accents. I don't like the Select. Not because it's a bad product, it doesn't accept the TC-G clip very well. It's very tight.

You will never have that problem if you move to fiberon. They will always pick Horizons Ipe, always,

Nope not true. I've brought along fiberon Ipe 100's of times. When they are making a choice between Trex and Fiberon they choose the Trex colors 95% of the time. So that blows your "always" out of the water! :laughing:

I like Fiberon a lot. But Trex has the best color palette. According to my customers.

Our most popular colors are anything grey, island mist has done pretty well since coming out. Haven't done a havana gold yet but I like it

My biggest seller is Tiki Torch. I won't still Havana Gold until they address the color inconsistencies. It's also too orange looking. My second best seller is Spiced Rum.

I'm going by what you've been saying for many years. So with your lack of experience with Transcends you can't have an informed opinion like some on here can.

Again I wouldn't sell Trex anything, hell I wouldn't give it away. I believe once the composite manufacturers started capping the composites the reliability of ALL composite decking was fixed.

Does your store sell decorator railing? I like the way the round balusters have a grommet on the bottom to keep them from rattling.

we sell anything from them if you want to spend more money? I like STEVE ERATORS, that's the only reason I got into this was to save me and others money, make a little also.

There is not a pot at the end of the rainbow.
Once you given them and established a whole territory for them, nothing. No one had even heard about Trex until I started installing it.
Broken promises, was told all I needed to do to buy from the wholesaler was to have a lumber truck, Store front, retail sales license. Soooooo 800k later and I year, nothing. Nada zip zero. Don't promise chit you can't and won't deliver on.
When I switched to another brand, I made another 100k in 1 year. As long as I was a Trex slave I was fated to being that, and just that.
Having moved on, a whole new world has opened up.

Hello,

I'm researching what type of decking to install, and I'm not familiar with the new types of Trex and how their materials compare to other makers. I know Trex has had lawsuit problems in the past but are their products now much better than they used to be?

Of Trex Select, Transcend, and Enhance - are the higher priced lines much better?

Are other composite makers considered higher quality at this point?

Everyone has an opinion on this. Most of the big names these days make a decent product though.
