i want to have a room with exposed 4x6 timbers for rafters with 2x4 t&g ontop for my ceiling. that should be straight forward, but how do i insulate the roof?

i was thinking on felting over the t&g, then adding 3 rows of 2" foam for my insulation. then screwing 1/2" osb to the rafters and t&g. kind of like the insulated panels you can order, but i plan on doing this myself and wont be able to lift those panels onto the roof.

so my question is......... wont the wight of the osb and roofing be too much for the foam or will this process cause way too much moisture and rot out my ceiling and osb?

five or six years ago, I helped do that to a church roof. As far as I know they haven't had any problems with it. I don't think we had any felt under the foam. We staggered the seams on ours sheets of foam, and sealed any gaps, holes, broken edges of the foam.

I felted the roof prior to installing the foam system as a just-in-case measure.
