Hello Everyone,

I usually stick to the framing forum, however I recently took over a house to project manage the completion of and this is one of the issues, so I`m just looking for a solution .

There is a small exterior walk out balcony off the second floor approx 9 x 8 . There is already a drain installed and epdm installed . When I first looked at it I figured it would be done like a shower, but then I have heard that thinset or any type of cement over EPDM will eat away at the EPDM.

Any idea`s would be great appreciated.

who says it can't? It can be installed over concrete roof decks.

Maybe call the manufacturer of your particular epdm to check. Let us know when you find out.

Membranes for TILE installations need to meet ANSI standards . For waterproofing applications it would be ANSI 118.10--EPDM does not meet it or other tile standards. Pavers may be a different story but tile and EPDM don't go together. And yes cement and it don't play well together .
