We got GFCIs that protect us from electricity, smoke detectors to save us from fires and airbags that allow us to walk away from auto accidents.

Now we can apparently die someday with all 10 digits.

Looks like OSHA will have another requirement soon.
Old news, been around a long time now and it has been very hotly debated. The owner/inventor tried making his technology mandatory on all new TS, you can imagine that Delta,PM, and others has some issues with that.

That said, when I can afford one I'll get it.

Thats crazy. No way I'd stick my finger in there.
Ive seen the saw stop device before but never a demonstration with a finger.

Wonder if Ruger has that kind of faith in their pistols with the de-cocker?
I have had one of those saws in my shop for three years.I consider it the finest cabinet saw I have ever used and it's not even because of the the brake system. The saw is just built very well and you throw in the brake and it's in a class by itself.

The guy who invented it shopped the idea around to other tool manufacturers and they wouldn't touch it, I believe Delta was one of them. Oops.....

That sounds like a great marketing idea. I heard that the inventor of the bullet proof vest staged a similar demonstration. He put on the vest, picked up a pistol, and shot into the vest. I guess it knocked him down but thats what I call confidence in your product!
These days I have trouble walking out on a top place that we just braced up.
Saw Stop has been around since at least 2006. Here it is featured in Popular Mechanics where it won the Break Through Award for safety in 2006.

The owner of the company is Steve Gass... He shows up on another woodworking forum from time to time. Awhile back he video'd a demonstration of the Sawstop technology using his own finger. That's confidence.

decockers are very safe. i'll stick my finger in front of my pistol with it cocked and flip the decocker.
Very impressive saw, but I wouldn't stick my finger in it.
When the patent runs out the price will drop. This is an awesome feature.

That's this video. I almost quit watching, thinking it was the same hot dog video we've all seen before, but he puts his finger into the blade. There is no way I could ever be that confident in it working.
You know my wife and another gal said they were interested in learning about woodworking and I thought about all the danger involved.

This won't cut their fingers off, but it will still kick-back into their faces and guts.

I wonder if all the high school shops have gone to these. That is the other thing that I thought of immediately.

And can the same technology be applied to bandsaws, etc.?
That's really cool, don't think I'll ever stop paying attention while I rip a 2x .. This is the first time I've ever seen this...
Don't think I will be supporting this system can barely afford to buy the table saw these days.
My high school shop got one back in 2006. I graduated in 05 but still do some work in the shop from time to time. (Teacher is also a contractor/cabinetmaker)

Never seen the video where he sticks his finger into the blade, thats pretty cool that he has that much confidence in his product.
did anybody try sitting in a bathtub and drop a hair dryer in the tub while plug into a gfi rec. just wondering
