I'm going to be adding at least one jack post in my basement. The house was built in 1880 so the concrete slab is about 3/4" thick at best. When I go to dig my pier(s) is there any tips or tricks you guys use to keep it a some what easy, clean install? Also what brands do you prefer for the job. Thanks

3/4" is hardly a slab, I've had tile floors thicker than that.

If it was built in the 1880's, they probably never did a soil composition core. You really need that to determine the size of a new footing.
