Hey Guys! Been MIA on here for a while...

I'll be installing Robinson Thin Brick over PAINTED sheetrock in a condo. I've done plenty of thin brick, but never over painted sheetrock.

Here are my 3 methods that I'm weighing out:

Option #1 (BEST): Lathe, scratchcoat, install thinbrick with thinset

Option #2 (2nd Best): Install 1/2" CBU over sheetrock, float joints, install thinbrick with thinset.

Option #3 (worst, but passable): Sand the crap out of the painted sheetrock, and install thinbrick with modified thinset.

Do you guys have any feedback on which one would be best in this application?

For thin brick in residential application, sand the ****rock and then trowel on a product such as Parex Base coat 121, then thinset the brick. For commercial work, Either one or 2, but 2 is usually better.

There are products out there to achieve that without lathing. LaHabra Plaster Mix is one, but there are others, both cementious and acrylic.

As a rule, you trowel on the base coat over whatever is there, then apply the finish coat, smooth or rough, from Tuscan to Venetian.
