I am going to put lights in my own garage (3 stall w/9.5' ceilings). I like the brightness of the T5's but are there any drawbacks?

I will be using them only when doing projects, 10-2 times a year. Live in MN, currently have some T12's and haven't replaced a bulb in 17 years so bulb cost isn't an issue (I think).

Any opinions?

Shorter life, a little lower efficiency. Shorter life shouldn't be an issue for you.

Is your shop cold? T8s reach maximum light output at a lower temperature if I remember right. T12HOs, though a little old school, might be best for low temperature use.
