Hello everyone,

I am trying to stucco over the brick pillars in my backyard and have hit a roadblock. It is the sealed concrete on the top of the pillars that is giving me adhesion problems. The base coat adheres well to the brick, but the tops of the pillars have sealed concrete on top. I used a Qucikcrete bonding agent and tried to slap on some Quickrete stucco Base Coat onto the sealed concrete. Even though I put the bonding agent on, it will not stick. Any ideas as to how to stucco over this for a lasting bond between the stucco and concrete?

Do I need to attach a wire mesh?
Can I acid bath the concrete to make it more porous?
Any other ideas? How would a professional go about doing this?

Thanks so much!

score or grind

I've had luck scoring with a cutting blade.

If you know what sealer was used you can sometimes remove it, for example some sealers will come off with acetone.
