I have better luck hemming this bend tight on the last step.

Hem tighter- not too tight or the back telegraphs through the face.

If I need a H piece I use 2 pieces of J back to back with a hemmed piece to cover the center. Gets really hard to make 1/2 J or H for aluminum soffit. 5/8 is about as small as I can go with my Tapco without really working it.

I prefer to do it the way faster and tighter

Typically your only making a short piece so you can jam it into the break and get it 5/8" no problem .

Ill be honest on small stuff, i just miter the soffit together with 1/4" gap and the take a piece of metal the same width as my facia lip hemm it on both sides and nail it up

5/8 is just not tight enough for 1/2 and under aluminum. When you take the 2 pieces of J back to back and make a hemming piece that is not to tight it sides right on the j making it look like factory H. I do this in place too.

I started making these like this, but the non "J" pocket side never laid tight to the soffit like I wanted- and only in retro work with full blocking/ plywood can this be used.

In new construction and just sub facia and wall track (J, F or Cove) the one sided pocket doesn't work.

I don't use aluminum soffit- but the J for aluminum is tighter and looks like it would do the trick.

My brake days started on a Tapco Windy and progressed through the 14" and onto the 19"s. Windy, I don't know but any if the other Tapco's no problem making the 1/2" pockets- I'm showing 1/2" - 5/8" in the pics.
