This is a recently vacated rental property down the street.
I think, as a roadside observer walking my dog, that I see code issues.

 

Siding is to close to ground, roof too, hard to tell for sure, Front stairs a mess, Back stairs should not be on the cantilevered part of the house. Never seen valley draining down though the soffit.

 

No graspable handrails.

 

The open stair treads are beyond 4". For outdoor open stairs, we always use 4x12 treads. I see lots of stairs like this on older homes so maybe it isn't enforced for residential. The apartments I've framed......this would be a fail.

But it's grandfathered in. It looks old. Or are you just trying to spot them?

You should see some of the old houses here, you could fill a book on issues not p to current code.

I like to see how it's put together.
Grandfathered....sure maybe.
Build new, today, not going to pass.

The first step and railing posts are strange as well.
No one took pride in their work.
Looks like they made due with whatever was laying around......no plan.

I bet all kinds of homes have strange, code-questionable, features.

 

The driveway, grading, and elevations, makes me want to smack someone…….

 

 

I like using the vinyl flex dryer duct. It's much easier to bend and doesn't dent...

 

What could possibly go wrong?

 

I’ve seen a lot of WH with dryer vent. 👍😳🙄

 

My son and his new wife to me to the house for a tour. I needed to get the photos of the water heater vent.
Flex into rubber then pvc with duct tape into an elbow to abs and then out the rim joist. But first the well made joist cutout to get the abs routed outside.

 

 

This is on a very large tub installed by a landscaper

 

Got that landscaper's number? He would have saved me a lot of time finding alternate products and the subsequent design changes that happened on a recent project 😂

 

And that's a waste of a good Fernco. Just slip the flex over the PVC and use that big ole roll of duck tape to seal her up. No brainer!

 

Pretty sure I've driven by that house. Or at least one that looks real close. Gonna have to pay attention next time.

Surprisingly that flexible section of water heater exhaust vent that looks like dryer exhaust duct is actually a flexible type of listed B Vent, you can tell by the sleeves on each end, they're made onto it as an assembly. Now the "Fernco" and everything above that is doubtful to me.

We were troubleshooting some step lights and discovered this workmanship everywhere, among other things.
