Spindle Spacing For Angled Banisters

I just built a couple 36" banisters in place.....basic,simple. Square stock 1 1/4" spindles. Bottom track on a wrapped knee wall, and rail with applied fillets.

The job is done and looks right....even spacing etc...I did it the dummy way, but I know I could be more efficient.

The main question is how do you calculate the length off the fillets.....

horizontal length 29"
spindles 1 1/4
spacing approx. 2"
slope 36*

The second question is a design/proportion/opinion issue.....What is the most attractive spacing for 1 1/4" square spindle?....I could add or subtract a spindle or two and make code. I was told to shoot for 2". I ended around 1 11/16" (inside:inside spacing)....

buffalo689,

Unless the laws governing right triangles have changed the length of the two adjacent sides determines the length of the hypotenuse.

I've never worked tact houses, my last staircase came in at over $100k but none of that really matters. The idea of these forums is to try to share info with others. I don't care who you are there will always be somebody better. If you don't want to help others why are you here?
