Well we ordered the arches precut from our trim supplier. Then assembled it all to the thickness we wanted.

No they are stain grade poplar. They are 3/4 lumber box beams...We put headers in the ceiling while framing and then attached a 2x6 to the ceiling. then tied the main 1x12 beams to them and put fillers in bottom. The arches notch into the 1x12 beams. It's all just a box.

Is that a shingle panel in the lower left? If so, what do you think of them? I live in a place where every house is shingled, yet I have never seen any panels go up....so I'm curious..

on the outside are those shingles or cedar one vinyl siding.

Those are true cedar shake shingles... This is what the home owner requested on all the gables and dormers. They work well...But are a little rough...
