Woke up this morning ,3am. to a alarm chirping and dog barking at it. Know should of changed battery sooner. My question is how does a hard wired alarm removered with battery out keep on chirping? Would not stop until dug around and found a new battery for it. Just what is nice to wake up too.

He said removed...I think he unplugged the molex connector.

Correct one what ? Battery? of course , 9volt. Is a hard wired 110 wire 9 volt back up. So why does it chirp sitting on the counter with no battery in it? Pretty straight forward question. ( sorry if sounding grumpy , just having my first cup of coffee.)

If you power them up without the battery they will beep for an hour or so, not sure if it's the capacitors or another on board backup battery but it's really annoying.

That was kind of what I was thinking, tore one apart one time looking for what made it chirp,, needless to say that one was toast when I got done with it. Very annoying specially at 3 in the morning.
Press the test button to discharge the capacitor.

I would expect no less of an answer from you Sparky,
Not what you asked but I've been putting lithium 9Vs in my alarms, which I believe last about until you should replace the alarm.
