I have removed an existing wall between my kitchen and garage. I need to do this because I am moving the stairs from the center of my house to the side to open up the kitchen. The wall sat on a cantilever floor joist that were around 4 feet long. The stairs are going where the cantilever system was, therefore it can’t support a wall and it needs to be moved back on top of the foundation wall. In the process I found this (image below??) there is a 2x4 seal plate on the foundation laying flat, then the 2x10 is vertical running the same as the joist. The issue i see is the base 2x4 of the wall. I would assume that this should be sitting on a double 2x10 and not centered on a single 2x10. The wall is not load bearing. I was going to match the construction style for the new wall but don’t want to build the framing and then fail inspection. Any help???
