Shingle Siding project

1870 Views 15 Replies 5 Participants Last post by  Jaws
I'm biding on a project that will also include me doing the siding, it is going to have about 23sqs of shingle siding
It calls for 16" with 6-7" TTW. Looking for some idea as to labor rate per sq and man hours/ sq
I do all the other kinds of siding (Cedar lap, Hardie, Vinyl...) but this will be a first. Do i have to hand nail or can I use my siding guns.

I would make sure to use thread lock.

lol i kill me....
A homeowner GC? Great Way to start out on a first post with no indroduction. Probabaly wanting to make sure the sub is not making to much money. You know how us pros are, always taking advantage of people.
No I'm not a home owner GC I'm a GC that also does sub-contracting. I'm sure a lot of you guys have to work for other contractor to keep your guys working. I would like some advise on installing Cedar Shingle as a siding. I've done some miner repair. and know how to do it but have never bid a project.

1) no, I don't. A gc subs out, not the other way around. I've never once in my life been a sub.

2) a siding nailer is what you want to use. Keep your nails 1" above where your lap will be, if you go higher the shingle will curl. Only put 2 nails per single 1" in from the side unless you get a really big one. Then do 4 nails, but the middle ones are 1" apart.
1-ya know I'm a 3 man shop I do what ever i can to keep us all busy
2 what did you do pull that word for word from www.cedarbureau.org/installation-and-maintenance/wall-manual/‎

Your link doesn't work. But I read it on the instructions on a box of pre finished cedar shingles many years ago. Thats how I've done it since
I'm not looking so much as to how, I'm more interested in how to estimate labor I don't want to bid it to high or for that matter to low. Any Ideas on a $/sq
Pal im a mason and I can pretty much, almost, if I had to, with a youtube video, nail siding to a house.

Siders do a 3k sq. ft. house here in 3 days. Good luck pal.

Can't tell you
How many guys? How much a sq Labor
Take how long you think it will take you, double it, multiply by your hourly rate.

It doesn't matter how much I can get a sq, we dont have the same overhead
