We started a new project which involves tearing down a shed roof to make room for an addition. This shed roof was holding a lot of snow and ice and it turns out so are the soffits and electrical fixtures!! This house is in need of some major repair. It will be a good long project.

I've seen about 10 of these so far this winter, it's been one of those winters in Michigan.

When the weather is right, the minimum standards set by code is not enough to prevent ice damming and water from coming in.

Wow, looks like you'll definitely have a ton of work ahead of you on this project! Please continue to post pictures along the way and link to other threads from here if you start related ones on this house, it looks like an interesting one.

Today we started to tear into that porch roof with the icicles. Its a 4/12 shed roof that overhangs the house by about 8 feet. The rafters are 2x8 and the soffit material was cedar and some type of plywood. We were heating the area for about a week while the foundation was being built and that caused water to drip on us while we were framing the deck. That's when we decided that enough was enough and tore off the soffit to reveal this:

There was also thousands of frozen carpenter ants. messy.
