I am new to sandblasting on my own but have an opportunity to get into some potentially big money I will be bidding on sandblasting oil tanks and rigs. But I don't really know the going rate or what medium is required to use on the tanks. I know it's not sand. And what do you do with the spent material etc. I'm thinking 7-8$ sq ft. 400 CFM. With 3/8 or 1/2" nozzle. Any advise? Pro are you here. You seem very knowledgeable.

I have only ever bid on one job but I would say the type and size of media you would choose would be according to any specs they offer on required profile size. If they have no specs then what ever you have readily available to you is fine. If you want speed then a garnet would be nice. I have been using synthetic olivine which is pretty hard and works quickly. Next you need to know what insurance requirements they have. You may want to know what their time requirements are and if they penalize for not meeting their deadline. Can't help with the price.
