Rose of Sharon - Pruning

Can rose of sharon be pruned? Late Fall best (Oct/Nov) ?

Any hints on doing so?

It seems once they grow longer, when bulbs develop, they have a tendency to droop so much they start laying on the ground during the year.

You can cut it anyway you want, even to the ground and it grows back no matter what....at least that's what it does in my dad's backyard/garden. He can't kill it and it drives him nuts. He wants it out of there.

But at least as a side note, they are beautiful.

Tell him to cut it down & give the cut trunk a treatment of torodon. It won't come back.
Prune after the leaves drop/before new buds appear in springtime. As said above, you can get as drastic as you like and it will come back. It's very hardy.
